The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is an international movement which bases itself on the Bible. Its social commitment is motivated by a belief in God and in the Gospels. For the Army, “love thy neighbor† is no mere slogan. Instead, it forms the basis for a network of projects through which the Salvation Army comes to the aid of needy individuals. Wretchedness and poverty are the principal societal deficits combated by the workers of the Salvation Army. Their activities encompass assistance for homeless people, residences for children, the elderly, and handicapped individuals, and an international service to assist in locating family members. The organization is active in mission and development work worldwide (AIDS prevention, health care provision, schools, and emergency aid). This image film concentrates on Sozialwerk Nürnberg, whose commitment and activities make it a part of the larger organization of The Salvation Army.
