Investing in Property during the Euro Crisis
The real estate market in Germany is going haywire. Currently, as a consequence of the Euro crisis, those selling apartments and houses in desirable locations such as Hamburg West can command high prices, and will sell their units sooner or later at great profits. People are anxious about inflation, and want to invest their savings as quickly as possible by purchasing apartments as a form of retirement security. In Hamburg district such as Blankenese, Nienstedten, Othmarschen, and Ottensen, purchasers know full well that prices are bound to rise in the coming years.
In other parts of Germany, however, the situation is quite different – particularly in rural areas. In northern Hesse, people continue to migrate to large cities. Older people who built or bought houses here years ago in order to secure their retirements lament that no one wants to move here any longer, leaving them burdened with unwanted properties.
We accompany a couple who want to make money by investing in real estate in a solid district. We show them viewing properties and consulting with real estate agents and financial advisors. And we also feature the difficulties faced by another couple who want to sell their house in the country and move to an assisted living situation in the city near their children, and who find themselves confronted with shattered dreams.
