Our Story: My First Car…
A first car is like a first great love – something you never forget. But a car is far more than a mere means of transportation. It is a status symbol, a synonym of success, of quality of life, of mobility, freedom, and independence: the VW Beetle, the Mercedes 300, the Trabi, the R4, the Manta, the Karmann Ghia convertible ...
In this documentary, we accompany north German auto fans, street heroes, and cult mechanics from various generations who still fondly recall their first cars, and who were willing to tell us the delightful, funny, enthralling, and extraordinary stories associated with them. While the development of the automobile accelerated daily life in Germany, it also spurred on the national economy – the automobile was decisive in transforming Germany into a leading industrial nation. The car became the most important consumer item in the modern world, and the greatest love of the German people.
"My First Car" is an emotional declaration of love to the automobile, with stories from the past 60 years and images from yesteryear. German auto history, related now with a chuckle, now wistfully, by northern German gearheads, vintage freaks, and nostalgia fans, supplemented by the material from archives and private collections.
