How Does it Work? Livestock Fair
Taking place in Hannover every two years is the world’s largest trade fair for animal production professionals. Altogether 1500 exhibitors from 55 countries travel to Hannover to feature the latest technologies in modern livestock farming and to present the best breeding animals. The Hannover Fairgrounds is the largest in the world. In our reportage, we show how the larger and smaller gears at the trade fair premises must mesh with one another in order to offer visitors a successful experience.
We are there when the cattle are unloaded and examined by veterinarians. Only then may they enter the cow washing area. At the fair, all animals must be at the most attractive. Hall 11 is converted into a special stall where the cows, goats, and sheep live during the fair days, and where they are looked after around-the-clock.
Required during the setting up days is elaborate logistics and perfect timing. All departments must work together harmoniously. A troop of inspectors races through the halls, and must remain continually available to the exhibitors. The security staff manages the arrival of trucks to the fairgrounds. Using forklifts and mobile cranes, the logistics team unloads the animal exhibits, many of them weighing tons, and transports them to the exhibition booths. Altogether 4,000 cubic meters of packing material must be stored, and many tons of refuse compressed on-site using a garbage compactor.
Inevitably, unpredictable problems pop up everywhere, and must be resolved speedily.
