How Does it Work? 1500 emergency vehicles annually - North German handcrafted production for the entire world
How many new ambulances are shipped out for deployment every year in Germany, and where exactly are they produced? How expensive are these vehicles, and what distinguishes ambulances in Germany from those in the Egyptian desert?
Located in the rural provinces, in the locale of Wietmarschen in Lower Saxony, is the headquarters of the firm WAS, one of the leading manufacturers of special and ambulance vehicles. Altogether 1500 vehicles are assembled here by hand each year, or four daily: whether ambulances, police cars, or mobile medical units, all are tailored individually to the needs of clients. The various models are distributed within Germany and throughout the world. What steps are involved in production and assembly, and how many pairs of hands contribute as a vehicle passes from the initial planning stages to the finishing touches? Why does the “XXL ambulance” have an integrated scale and hydraulic lift? Why are English ambulances outfitted with cameras? – This film follows the production, assembly, and deployment of these specialized vehicles. We want to find out who the purchasers are, and how it is possible to prepare 1500 vehicles for deployment every year!
