Talbot Runhof
Their clothing designs are familiar from leading gala events such as Bambi and the German Television Award. Far beyond Germany’s borders, the Munich label Talbot Runhof has conquered a place for itself in the world of fashion. But who are the individuals behind the name? The team is composed of Johnny Talbot from the US and Adrian Runhof from Germany. In 1992, they founded the collection and the firm behind it under the name “All About Eve.† To produce the collection, more than 30 highly–qualified seamstresses and seamsters work in their own studio and in other workshops. Every garment is painstakingly pieced together by hand, making each individual item of clothing a unicum. But just what is it that makes Talbot Runhof so special? The name stands for thrilling glamour and contemporary luxury, for fashion meant for special occasions, whether daytime or evening. Captivating, even at first glance, are the exceptional materials and the idiosyncratic manner in which they are combined. To begin with, there are precious satins, lamés, mousselines and laces, all reminiscent of classicial Parisian haut couture. But we also find austere materials intended for menswear, including pinstripes or tweeds, and even rather banal weaves like denim and striped shirt cotton. All of these materials are worked into highly–feminine, tight–fitting separates, including bustiers, skirts (both long and short), slacks, stoles and jackets, all of which can be combined with one another as desired. Their glamour is not a function of brilliance and glitter, but instead primarily of the cut: designs are sexy, but more through subtle concealment than through overt display. These garments are witty, and often enough there are a few less-than-obvious details which are visible only to connoisseurs, and which tend to elude casual observers.
